Welcome to the History in Pictures section of Chrutil's domain.
[Part I - The Early Years] [Part II - Hard Times] [Part III - Truth, Justice, and the American Way] Part I - The Early Years It all started innocently enough in Gothenburg, Sweden back in April 1967 when I was born. I got geeky pretty early. Here's an early picture of me on the phone. You see, before computers, we had phones, alarm clocks, and other high-tech stuff we could dismantle and play with. It got downhill from there, as you can clearly see from the two following pics. First I not-so-proudly present The Janson Cowboys. I'm the little guy. The big one is my brother Peter. I don't know what to say. I have no excuse.
Back with a vengeance with another one! One day when I have kids I'll embarrass the hell out of them too with these kind of pictures. It cracks me up that these two pictures are taken at the exact same spot, but obviously years apart. It makes me wonder if our parents used to line us up here and take an embarrassing picture every now and then as some kind of punishment...
1974: Genesis releases their masterpiece "The Lamb Lies Down
on Broadway", Mariner 10 becomes the first spacecraft to visit Mercury and India
becomes the worlds sixth nuclear power.
True progression. 1975 to 1978. Got bigger teeth and magically grew shoulders. Another possibility is that I'm closer to the camera in the second photo, and my head actually shrunk.
Okay, let's skip a few years ahead and at this point in time (this should be around 1981 I think) I was actually self-aware enough to be responsible for myself, which is why my coolness factor is just about to peak here, and I am absolutely the coolest guy in my class. Others may argue, specifically the ones in my class, but this is my website so to hell with them. I know this is true for sure. Yeah, that's me in a turquoise Lacoste shirt (yeah I know, but this is a long time ago) in the middle of the top row. You also get to see my buddies Fredde (middle row second from right) and Olle (front row, second from right). For the musically inclined, this is also about the time when I got to hear the two albums that were to form my taste in music for the next 20 (and more) years. Rush: "Moving Pictures" and Saga: "Silent Knight". I've been sticking with progressive rock ever since then.
To really prove my coolness I can present this little thing that I saved all these years for the very reason that when I get my own web page I'll put it up on display for everyone to see in complete awe - it's an original from the "Rage In Eden" tour November 15, 1981. Anyone that is anybody knows that this is as cool as it gets. And yeah, I was there.
Described by Fredde as "the man with half a clay pot on his head", here I am again. Supposedly 1982.
Los Trés Doritos (The Three Dorks)
I have no idea when this is, what I'm doing, or why, but my suspicion is that I just did something mean and I'm in the process of trying to blame it on someone else. The chick in the pic is Lölli (Ulrika, Lill-Fan) one of my dearest friends.
Yep, our friendship survived numerous ordeals, including the one above, here's the proof - Me, Lölli and Dudde hugging and getting along just fine.
Okay, coolness can wear off, but geekiness is forever. This would be around 1985 and I'm the ultra-proud owner of a HP-71b calculator/computer thingy. I dumped my HP-41 with magnetic card reader and a bunch of extra fluff, for this little piece of magic with a magnificent 17.5kb of memory fully programmable in BASIC. Actually, I'm not all geek, since there's still coolness in there somewhere. And no, that's not my room, it's my then girlfriend Sibylla's room.
Gimme a few more years and I'm geek peaking in June 1987. Here I also get another opportunity to show off Fredde again. He's the guy in the blue jacket behind his brother Martin. I'll prove the geek peak with the simple fact that this is my graduation and yes, that's an OS/2 1.0 pin I have on my jacket. The hat is what you have on your graduation. It's a Swedish thing, It's not a captains hat.
